TV P&C: Script Writing Assignment
Use the following information to write a script for a news anchor. Create the script using Google Docs and share it with me. Due: 11/15/2011
There are no excuses.
Fifteen-year old Alejandro Taylor was fishing with his brother and father early this morning near Lake Water, elevation 6463 feet above sea level. Alejandro and his seventeen-year old brother, Tyler, got into an argument over whether to use real or artificial worms.
“Alejandro is a purist, you know,” said Tyler. “He has to spend hours digging for worms and such. He has to have real worms, or the experience is ruined for him.
Alejandro threw water at his brother and stormed away from the others, going southwest around the lake. Alejandro was wearing jeans and a white T-shirt with the words “Vote for Pedro” in fuzzy red letters.
The father and brother continued fishing for about an hour before they realized Alejandro has returned to fish with them.
“I thought he was pouting in the bushes or something,” said Alejandro’s father. “He likes to sit in the bushes and pout. He is really good at it, too. Why once, when he was six, he pouted in the bathroom for three hours before we changed the channel.”
Alejandro’s father and brother stopped fishing, walked to the car and put their gear away, and then walked in the direction Alejandro has gone.
“We argued for a while before we looked. I thought he went that way,” said Tyler, “but Dad said he went the other way. So we went the other way.”
After two hour of searching for Alejandro, the father and brother stopped looking and called search and rescue.
Currently, 113 searchers, including three women from Delaware, are combing the area around the Bass River in the Pine Barrens looking for Alejandro. The major concern at this time is a cold front moving in from the Northwest. The weather forecast called for snow tomorrow and overnight lows before freezing.

Great job on your 1st newscast! I'm very proud of everyone involved, but like anything in life there is always room for improvement.
All students must post a comment to this blog posting reflecting on what worked, what didn't work, and how we can make BDN better going forward. I'm looking for ideas on how to schedule taping, editing, and more. Everyone must post an idea, improvement, and you can always compliment someone on their excellent work too!
Also add 5 pros and cons to this episode. Make sure you are offering constructive feedback in a positive statement. Be specific.
Due Friday 10/28 before class.

Web 2.0: Week of 10/17 - Google Forms
Companies create surveys in order to obtain data about what their potential (or current) customers want in new products, upgrades, and other feedback. After customers submit their surveys, the results/data of the survey are analyzed (numbers are crunched). Online surveys are most popular because the results are all already stored into a database and requires no human data entry. Survey Monkey and Google Forms are 2 of the more popular survey building websites.
Videos:
1) Google Docs in Plain English
2) Quick & Easy Forms with Google Docs
3) Using Forms in Google Docs
Think of the social networking websites you use or are familiar with (Facebook, Google +, Twitter, Tumblr, etc.). What are these sites missing? What new features would you like to see? Your goal is to create a brand new social networking website that includes major enhancements to existing ones. Before you begin, you need to know what your customers want! (This project will be done in pairs)
1) Create a survey form on a new social networking website that includes specific innovative features not available on current sites. Before you create the survey, use Google Docs to brainstorm with your partner about what your survey will include. Think of your target market first! Who will be using your website?
2) Once you begin creating the survey, you must first drag it your Web 2.0 shared folder so I can view and also share it with your partner.
3) Make sure you obtain the demographics of your population with a few questions about age range, gender, etc. You can also about the # of computers and mobile devices in the household in addition to other pertinent data that will assist you with your new website (product).
4) You must ask at least 6 questions relating to your social networking website for a minimum of 10 survey questions. You will also use at least 6 of the 7 question types.
5) Each partner must take an active roll in the survey design making sure they are logged in under their own name to verify work completed.
6) Once the survey is done, you will embed it on one of your blogs and invite class members, family, friends, to take your survey. Try and get a minimum of 20 responses.
Be creative! Come up with a unique website name! Be positive and come up with the "better" Facebook! ;)
This survey will be completed this week and users can begin taking your survey once I approve it and give you the OK to post it! If there are any questions, please post them here.

Web 2.0: Using Google & Technorati Blog Search 10/11/2011
Perform a Google and/or Technorati Blog Search and research at least 2 blogs that interest you. Add those blogs to your Google dashboard as a blog that you follow.
After you have done that, read an article from 1 of the blogs and post a constructive comment on it. Computers 2: All About Jing
"Jing is a screencasting software launched in 2007 as Jing Project by the TechSmith Corporation. It is currently in version 2.1.9181 and is free to download and use. The software takes a picture or video of the user's computer screen and uploads it to the Web, FTP, computer or clipboard. A URL is automatically created and can be shared with others to view or access the uploaded file. Jing is compatible with Macintosh and Windows. Its simple format and the ability to upload screencasts in SWF format for viewing at screencast.com has made it useful for virtual reference in libraries."
Go to the Jing website and download the free Jing software. Install this software on your computer.
The Jing website provides a great deal of help in getting started. Here is a good overview of Jing.
Here are several YouTube videos about using Jing:
Jing Video 1
Jing Video 2
Please view all the instructions on the Jing website - and then contact Mr. Porfido if you still have questions about getting started.
ASSIGNMENT:
Use Jing to create a brief overview/tour of your own blog. No more than 30 seconds.

Computers 2 Assignment: Social Bookmarking
Organizing digital information is becoming a big challenge as people continue to use the World Wide Web in news ways. The ability to recall the locations of favorite web sites, digital pictures, or important documents and email messages is crucial as the amount of data stored on both personal computers and the WWW increases.
Storing photographs or documents in folders on your personal computers is one way to categorize and locate information. Under this scheme, you might organize your digital pictures on your personal computer in folders according to the years that you took them, and then store related photos in folders beneath each year.
What another way we can organize your computers? What about email? Your Favorite Websites? Your Blog Posts? RSS Feeds? Reply to this post with specific way, websites that can help you, and anything else you would want to add.
Assignment:
1) Set up an account on Diigo.
2) Go to: http://groups.diigo.com/group/porfido and apply to be a group member (on right)
3) Save at least 5 specific websites on Diigo using whichever tags appear to be the most useful if you had to do a report on either of the following: 1. the killing of Osama Bin Laden 2. the NFL lockout or 3. Governor Christie .
4) Be sure to enter a description: about the website and specific appropriate tags.
5) Then you must add the site to the group Porfido (after you have been accepted membership).
6) Feel free to add other bookmarks to be used for personal use and continue using Diigo!
