TV P&C Weekly Assignment

Weekly Newscast Assignment

On the last day of the school week, each pre-assigned group will perform a full newscast. Possible jobs are: Anchor, Camera person, Weather, Sports, Special Feature, Local News, and World News. Positions will be rotated on a weekly basis. Each group member will use various website and newspapers to find an article that interests you, read it, and then type up a brief summary of it to be presented in class during your group’s newscast. The article can’t be read verbatim. The groups will then type up the script of the newscast.

Each Group Will:
1) Create a Broadcast Name for the group and a Group Logo/Symbol
2) You can portray your broadcast as you wish (serious, funny, etc) as long as the news is real
3) Come up with a school appropriate Commercial to be presented mid-cast
4) Total length should be about 10-15 minutes. Keep your audience engaged at all times.
5) One person will be the camera person each week. Their job is to catch various shots, up close, group, etc.
6) After all groups have gone, we will work on editing the newscast on Final Cut

This assignment will count towards your Class Participation/Homework grade. If you are absent on the last day of the week, you are exempt from that week’s newscast. Your group will just perform it without you. If you are absent the day before the last day of the week, you are required complete the assignment. Participating will boost your average. Failure to complete them will result in a 50% for that week.

Once the class gets into the flow of doing newsgroups, suggested enhancements could be: interviews, music, costumes, a Blue Devil only newscast etc.
